March 23, 2012 – Commerce City, CO – Underground mine and tunnel expansion projects will hit production targets sooner, with Atlas Copco’s Boomer E1 C-DH face drilling rig. The single-boom, diesel-hydraulic multipurpose unit is specifically designed for mines or construction sites lacking water and electrical infrastructure. The Boomer E1 C-DH comes with dual onboard 118 gallon water tanks and a six-cylinder, 232 hp Deutz diesel engine to drive the rig, its boom and the drill’s hydraulic pumps.

The new Boomer E1 C-DH rig is one of the largest diesel-hydraulic face-drilling rigs on the market, with a coverage area of up to 1022 square feet. This is a 38% improvement over its predecessor, the Boomer L1 C–DH drill rig.

According to Johan Jonsson, product manager for Atlas Copco Underground Rock Excavation, the new rig provides unique advantages in the field. “In the case of a new project, the Atlas Copco Boomer E1 C-DH drill rig can be used to get started even before water and electricity are installed at the job site,” he said. “Mines begin earning sooner, and contractors are able to get ahead on their schedules.” Jonsson also pointed to the new drill rig’s advantages in widening existing tunnels or adding bolts in older workings, as it is not necessary to install power and water infrastructure to support the rig on-site.

The new drill rig also contributes to more economical use of a fleet’s resources. The Boomer E1 C-DH rig is able to handle small construction jobs more efficiently than larger rigs, Atlas Copco Construction & Mining

and when used in a mine is compact and maneuverable enough to get the job done in tight
spaces.

The multipurpose capabilities of the new rig are enhanced with the addition of the optional
basket attachment. This allows the Boomer E1 C-DH rig to be used as a bolting rig and as a
utility rig for drilling holes and installing ventilation ducting, among other tasks.

The Boomer E1 C-DH drill rig comes standard with Atlas Copco’s Rig Control System
(RCS) with the option to upgrade to an even higher degree of automation. Jonsson said, “As
a member of the Atlas Copco Boomer E-series of face-drilling rigs, the new rig has access to
the wide range of existing options for that established product family,” which he believed to
be another important consideration for those in the market for a large diesel-hydraulic rig.

The Boomer E1C-DH was developed to meet the need for a self contained, diesel hydraulic
driven rig with a large coverage area equipped with a service basket.

The rig comes with a COP 1638, COP 1838, or COP 2238 rock drill with a dual-damping
system for optimum service life. The BUT 45 heavy-duty boom is equipped with a double-
rotation unit for plus/minus 190-degree feed roll-over and plus/minus 135-degree feed
rotation, providing the operator with fast and accurate positioning between holes. It comes
with an 8 foot boom extension and 5.9 foot feed extension. The rig also has a BMH
6000 series hydraulic feed.

“ Both in terms of performance and efficiency, the improvement in comparison to the predecessor model is considerable ”, explains Gordon Hambach, Product Line Manager for Hydraulic Breakers, “ here we were able to achieve increases in the double-digit percentage range .”

Reduced weight and better performance of a hydraulic breaker means that similar results can be achieved with a smaller hydraulic breaker and a smaller excavator. That saves investment and operating costs. Gordon Hambach: “ The follow-up costs of an investment in a hydraulic breaker are many times greater than the pure acquisition costs. The reduction of these total cost of ownership involves the conserving of resources, such as energy and work time, as well as durability and simple maintenance concepts.“

Against this background, the guide system of the hydraulic breaker was changed in order to make it even more stable and resilient. “ Hydraulic breakers are ultimately subjected to use under the most extreme conditions ,” Hambach adds. “ A new covering for the retaining bar offers more protection. And we have also reinforced the service window and the recesses for the lateral swivel threaded connections. There is also circumferential wear protection, which has proven its worth with all heavy hydraulic breakers from Atlas Copco .”

With a service weight of 4,100 kg, the HB 4100 is suitable for carrier machines from 40-70 t.

Stockholm, Sweden, January 31, 2012: Atlas Copco today reported fourth quarter results with continued growth in orders and revenues. Profitability remained on a good level. For the full year 2011, Atlas Copco reached new records for sales and operating profit.

“We have had a solid end to a year that was nothing less than fantastic for Atlas Copco,” said Ronnie Leten, President and CEO of the Atlas Copco Group. “Demand for our products and services was better than expected during the quarter.”

Revenues in the fourth quarter increased 16% organically to BSEK 22.3 and the operating profit was BSEK 4.6 (4.0), corresponding to a margin of 20.6% (20.7). The full-year organic revenue increase was 22% to BSEK 81.2, with a margin of 21.6% (19.9). In the near term, the overall demand for Atlas Copco’s products and services is expected to weaken somewhat from the current high level.

“We have a good starting point but a challenging task ahead; the global outlook is difficult to predict and we will continue seeking long- and short-term growth opportunities,” Leten said. “During the fourth quarter we invested in competence development in all markets, developed our manufacturing capacity in Asia and made acquisitions to extend our presence and product offering.”

Notable events during the quarter include the acquisitions of Houston Service Industries, a U.S. manufacturer of energy-efficient blowers, and Swedish GIA, which broadens the offering of underground transportation and utility equipment. In January, it was announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that Atlas Copco has been included on the Global 100 list of the world’s most sustainable companies, ranked as number 10.

“Our goals for Atlas Copco’s sustainable, profitable development, which were introduced a year ago, are yielding results. We were very proud to see our work in this area recognized,” Leten said.

The Board of Directors of Atlas Copco AB proposes a dividend of SEK 5.00 (4.00) per share, corresponding to a total distribution to shareholders of BSEK 6.1.
