Bluefield, VA (Coal Geology): The next ASBOG Professional geologist examination is scheduled on March 2, 2012. The Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) does not provide any course material that you can study to be successful in the exam. Unfortunately only about 55% of the geologists taking the Fundamental of Geology (FG) passes the test. For Practice of Geologist (PG) test, the passing rate is close to 70%. It is important to study well for the examination. The candidate handbook by ASGOB provides the most basic information about the exam and lists various topics that are covered in the geologit’s exam. The handbook also has a set of questions to give you an idea about what to expect. The book “ASBOG Exam Secrets Study Guide: ASBOG Test Review for the National Association of State Boards of Geology Examination” may be useful when studuying for the ASBOG exam. The book does not cover everything in detail but give you enough outline that helps you to fucus on specific sections of geology.

I am getting the book anyway. Very useful to have a short guide to refer to what I need to elaborate.

Not much there. It consists of 50 pages in very large type with a paragraph title followed by a brief paragraph on some subjects. It looks like it was taken from the REG REVIEW book where you can get about 10 times as much material for only twice the price. Definitely not worth the money and it is a shame for people to spend so much for so little. It is misleading in the advertising in that so little is really covered.
WHAT IS THE REG REVIEW BOOK LISTED ABOVE AND WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT IT SINCE IT IS MENTIONED TO BE BETTER MATERIAL TO STUDY.
I actually bought the GRE Geology handbook for ASBOG. Just to get some idea about the type of questions to expect. I have heard the ASBOG question set up is quite similar to GRE-Geology exam.
Reg Review is no doubt the BEST study material available for the ASBOG test prep. I have used GRE sample questions. Not worth buying. The type of most of the GRE questions are different than the format used by ASBOG.
Stick to the basics of geology and give yourself plenty of time. Reg review study material can be purchased at:
