How do the cores look like from exploration drilling?

As a geology student, we learn to look at rocks at school. We train ourselves to look at various minerals and rocks pieces collected by professors and others. You would hardly see any rocks in “core” form at school. It needs some training to look at core and identify┬árock-types, structures and minerals. Some examples are below as I was logging a long borehole.
