July 29, 2011, ABINGDON, Va.,(Coal Geology)– Alpha Natural Resources (NYSE: ANR), one of the nation’s leading coal suppliers, is pleased to announce the results of a recent Mine Rescue Competition. Mine rescue teams from Alpha affiliates: Kingston Resources, Inc., Rockspring Development, Inc., and Brooks Run Mining, and a Southern West Virginia regional team recently participated in the Friends of Coal festival in Beckley, W.Va.

Teams from several coal companies participated in the event. The team from Kingston Resources, Inc. took top prize.  “We are proud of how dedicated and professional these men are. They take their jobs as mine rescue volunteers very seriously. Their hard work paid off.  All of our mine rescue teams should be proud of the work they do, because they are role models for all of us,” said Perry Whitley, director, Mine Emergency Coordinator and Preparedness.

The Kingston team calls itself the “Right Mix.” The team consists of Captain-Oscar Hughes, # 1 gas man-Greg Fernett., #2 gas man-Josh Birchfield, map man-Daniel Bragg, tail captain-Ernie Watkins, briefing officer-Jason Stone, and patient-Sean Tichnell.
